It’s been a while, I know. But Gail (my wife and the person you often see in my pictures, often eating wonderful meals) and I have been busy, developing our new venture: a YouTube channel devoted to our love of walking and our quasi-related fondness for train travel. We call it Travel Intently.
In many respects, Travel Intently is the logical evolution of the walk-related posts you have seen here on walkclickmake. Over the past few years (excluding those ‘gap years’ as known as the pandemic), my posts have incorporated audio components, including found sounds, audio interviews with Gail and me and immersive binaural recordings, all of which are designed to accompany and add depth to my photos. Many of you have commented that you enjoyed our banter over dinner or sitting in a church or eating pizza trailside.
Video is a means of drawing the two—audio and photography—into a cohesive package. And, for me, video is a new challenge. I’ve always regarded it as something quite different from still photography, requiring a unique set of skills, and so I have steered clear of video for most of my photography life. I will never be a Martin Scorcese but I think short run-and-gun style videos will suit the documentary/street photography of my walkclickmake posts.
By way of introducing our Travel Intently channel, feel free to take a look at the first two videos uploaded just this week. The first is an introduction to Travel Intently, hosted by Gail and me. The second is the initial video of a series we call North America By Train. In this one, we head off on Via Rail’s Canadian from Winnipeg to Vancouver. This is the first of many videos in the series, taking us from Vancouver to Seattle, Los Angeles, San Fransisco, Chicago, Washington D.C.,NewYork City, Toronto and, finally, to Toronto. All within one month. Entirely by train.
Clicking on the images below will take you to the videos on our YouTube channel. Gail and I hope you enjoy what is up and our upcoming videos. And if they spark an interest, please subscribe to Travel Intently. And, if you have friends and family who might also enjoy our travels, be sure to use that Share button!
