A series of posts following David and Gail as they walk 480 kilometers from Prague to Vienna in 2014.
September 1, 2014
As any walking adventure in a foreign land should start, we walked…to the airport. It’s six in the morning as we leave the house on this dark, cool and quiet Labour Day Monday. We walk briskly, egged on by Air Canada’s schedule. We traverse the empty Toys R Us parking lot, pass any number of airport hotels and, just as we approach the airport terminal, the sun breaks over the horizon. Or, more correctly, the roofline of the sprawling Canada Post building. We end our pre-boarding walk with a few quick pics of Gail framed by fuel tanks and clouds and Gail huddled below the looming concrete arrivals ramp, all so beautifully lit by the low morning sun.
So begins our journey to Prague, the start of our long-distance walk across the Czech Republic, moving in a roughly south direction to our destination, Vienna, Austria. It is a path known as the Prague-Vienna Greenway and it will take us 21 days to walk the 490 kilometres. If all goes according to plan. If our feet and legs hold out. If we don’t get lost. Stay tuned for more tales from the trails as our journey continues.
